Goodbye Classic Teams Desktop App

The classic Teams desktop app will be phased out by July 1, 2025, pushing users to adopt the new Teams app. This change emphasises Microsoft's move towards a more streamlined and integrated experience. 

Goodbye to any support and updates for Office 2016 and Office 2019

Support for Office 2016 and 2019 will end on October 14, 2025 and there will be no extension and no extended security updates. While Office 2016 and Office 2019 apps will continue to function, using them after the end of support date could expose organisations to serious and potentially harmful security risks. Organisations using Office 2016 and 2019 versions will need to upgrade to Microsoft 365 Apps. 

Retirement of Viva Topics

Viva Topics will be retired in February 2025 and Microsoft won't invest in new feature development for Viva Topics. With the generational shift in AI technology underway, Microsoft will continue focusing their strategy and efforts on building new AI-powered knowledge management experiences in Microsoft Copilot and other parts of Microsoft 365.  

Retirement of Viva Goals

Viva Goals will be retired in December 2025, prompting organisations to explore alternative goal-setting and performance management tools within Microsoft 365. While Microsoft will continue to maintain Viva Goals' availability, accessibility, and security through retirement, there will be no investments in new feature development in 2025. 

Retirement of OneNote for Windows 10

OneNote for Windows 10 will be retired in October 2025, encouraging users to transition to the OneNote app available in Microsoft 365. 

Enhanced Security Measures

With the rise of cyber threats, Microsoft 365 will continue to enhance its security measures, including advanced threat protection and zero-trust architecture. 

Increased Focus on Accessibility

Microsoft 365 will continue to focus on enhancing accessibility, ensuring that all users, regardless of their abilities, can fully utilise the platform. 

Expansion of Cloud Services

Microsoft 365 will continue to expand its cloud services, offering more storage, computing power, and scalability. 

Personalised User Experience

AI and machine learning will be used to create a more personalised user experience, tailoring the platform to individual user needs and preferences.

Continuous Innovation

Microsoft 365 will continue to innovate, regularly introducing new features and updates to keep the platform at the cutting edge of technology and improving information management and protection capabilities.
