I really wanted to share all the key things we spoke about after running our Microsoft 365 Learning Resources Webinar with the AMAZING Erica Toelle, Sr. Product Marketing Manager for Microsoft Information Governance and Records Management 15th October 2021.
LTD’s Webinars are NOT traditional, we use polls to help you get involved which will enhance the amount of information you recall. There are no slide decks, it’s just the host/trainer and participants! We encourage you to have your cameras turned on, as it is always nice to see who we are talking too and it also gives us some virtual energy to work from, you can unmute yourself to ask questions or just type them in the chat box!
A lot of clients ask if our sessions are recorded, they are not as I feel it’s a barrier and deters you our delegates from getting involved, so if you don’t turn up, you will have missed it! On this occasion though, I thought, I would put ‘pen to paper’ and write something so if you missed the session this will explain the learning resources available to you.
During the webinar, Erica and I discussed all the training available by Microsoft and Leadership Through Data. The one question on everyone lips is ‘’where do we start as there is so much available ?” It is important for records managers to understand the basic Microsoft 365 functionality, especially SharePoint. Here are some free resources to learn about Microsoft 365:
- Microsoft Learn | Microsoft Docs: free learning paths for all Microsoft products.
- Microsoft Ignite: free conference where Microsoft makes new product announcements.
- SharePoint Maven: Great resource for SharePoint 101 content
- Regarding 365: resource for creative tips and tricks for using Microsoft 365
Of course, records managers also need to understand the records management functionality in Microsoft 365. Here are some resources:
- Microsoft authored Deployment Guide: https://aka.ms/MIG/Deployment
- Microsoft webinars, including past recordings: https://aka.ms/MIG/Webinars
- Microsoft Records management Blog: https://aka.ms/MIG/Blog
- Do you want your own Microsoft 365 environment, where you can try records management yourself, without asking IT? Sign up for the free Microsoft Developer Program – you do not need to be a developer! As long as you use the environment it will be renewed automatically.
- Microsoft 365 Security & Compliance User Group (London, United Kingdom) | Meetup: A free user group that meets virtually every month. They cover all security and compliance topics.
- Joanne C Klein’s blog: A great blog focused heavily on records management. Joanne is great about verifying things with Microsoft before she publishes, so her information is reliable.
These training opportunities are super exciting as all the above providers offer a different type of training that cover a range of learning styles and at LTD we are really passionate about ensure all learning styles are covered in our training. Following on from this we had a great question from one of the delegates ‘’Microsoft is so big, where do you start with your training’’? This is a great question and one that many of our clients have asked us. LTD have evolved with our course creation and created NEW courses to support the knowledge gaps that we have seen or have been made aware. This year we have designed a set pathway for clients to follow which is specific to job roles.
At LTD we take our clients on a learning journey and if you follow the specific learning pathway it will provide you with greater benefits to your Microsoft 365 knowledge and skills set. We are not just trying to sell you more courses, we are investing in you by building your knowledge, just like you walking up a flight of stairs taking it step by step. This means you then have the basic knowledge and can progress to more advanced training, otherwise it will be a mind blowing amount of information to understand and absorb. Research suggests you then will not be able to absorb any information due to increased stress levels and anxiety.
The following diagram is an example of suggested pathway for New and Advanced Records Manager.
We have created learning pathway for IT professional as your journey would be very different from a Records Manager.
After explaining the pathway, I went on to explain a brief overview of each course which I have detailed for you in the following sections. We closed the session talking about learning and teaching styles and how to engage your audience when creating your own training. We are behind the scenes creating a NEW courses AYNTK: Designing your Information Architecture in Microsoft 365, you will have to solve the Investment scam and follow the trail of evidence inside our Microsoft 365 Training Environment.
